Madds is a distinguished self-taught artist, originally from Memphis, TN, now residing in the vibrant artistic hub of New York City.
From the tender age of five, Madds' creative journey was nurtured by a mother who encouraged exploration without interference, allowing a unique and unfiltered artistic perspective to flourish. Deeply captivated by the intricate beauty of the renaissance, baroque, and rococo periods, Madds finds
inspiration in the complexity that defines these eras.
For the past three years, Madds has immersed themselves in an intensive self-study of Peter Paul Rubens' vast library, striving to grasp the nuances of his masterpieces. As Madds continues this profound study, they simultaneously create original works that echo the grandeur of these historical periods.
Madds' ultimate goal is to ensure that the rich traditions of these artistic genres endure, offering a fresh perspective while maintaining their timeless tone and essence.
Los Ninitos Rojos is currently on view at Broome St. Gallery, with an opening night scheduled for November 15th 2024.
Apos (Apostolos Chantzaras) is the most recognizable artist of his generation. A master of color and shadows and a storyteller of myth and lyrical poetry. Apostolos is a New York and Athens based artist, born in 1977 in Greece. In his early years, he studied Byzantine painting next to his father. In 2000-2005 he studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts and later at the University of Paris 8 in Paris.
He developed his own visual style of bold lines, forms and saturated colors drawing influence from the Greek folk shadow play and Byzantine iconography. A wide array of symbols related to Greece all come together and create a unique, artistic amalgam, empowered by strong colors and intense movement. Yet the outcome is far from verbose because Chantzaras succeeds in transforming it and making it something of his own. He has participated in several personal and group exhibitions, and theater performances. His paintings are part of private collections and museums.
